As their business scaled, so did the complexity of shipping logistics,especially when it came to accurately calculating shipping costs for heavy or volumetric items. With a need to improve efficiency, accuracy, and customer experience, Living By Design leaned on long time digital partner Arkhi to build a custom Shopify Carrier Service integration.
Shopify’s standard shipping setup wasn’t equipped to properly calculate rates for large, heavy and/or irregularly shaped products.
Rates were often based solely on weight, which created major discrepancies for products with large volume but lower mass. Especially with cubic (m2) carriers that calculate shipping based on the cubic weight.
Internally, staff had to manually compare rates across multiple carriers to determine the best option. This process was time-consuming, error-prone, and slowed down order processing.
Shipping inaccuracies led to customer confusion and dissatisfaction at checkout, as well as unexpected costs post-purchase.
